Here’s a simple, practical guide to getting your Vancouver home ready for a professional cleaning visit, whether it’s a standard clean, deep clean, move-out service, or strata building clean.

Do You Need to Clean Before the Cleaners Arrive?

No. Cleaning your home before professional cleaners show up is like cooking your meal before going to a restaurant. You’ve paid for a flat-rate service, let us do the work.

What you do need to do is a quick declutter so the team can reach the surfaces they’re there to clean.

Your 10-Minute Pre-Clean Checklist

1. Pick up clutter from floors and surfaces

Clothes on the floor, kids’ toys, items piled on countertops, move these to their proper places or into a laundry basket. Cleaners clean surfaces; decluttering personal items isn’t part of the service. A clear surface means a thoroughly cleaned surface.

2. Put away valuables and important documents

All Speedy Sparkle cleaners are background-checked and covered by $2M insurance, but it’s sensible practice to put away jewellery, cash, passports, and anything irreplaceable before any home service visit.

3. Let us know about pets

We love pets, and our eco-friendly cleaning products are safe for animals. But a quick note at booking, ‘large dog, will be in the backyard’ or ‘two cats, they hide under the bed’, means the team can plan around them and nobody gets surprised.

4. Confirm access instructions if you won’t be home

Most Speedy Sparkle clients aren’t home during their clean, it’s one of the main benefits of booking a vetted, flat-rate service. If you won’t be there, confirm how we access the property:

• Lockbox code (most popular): leave a key in a lockbox and give us the code at booking
• Key left with concierge or neighbour: works well in Vancouver strata buildings
• Smart lock temporary code: valid for the cleaning day only

We’ll confirm the details before we arrive and notify you when the clean is complete.

5. Tell us your priorities

If there’s a specific area you want extra attention on, the oven, the grout in the master bathroom, the balcony, add a note at booking or message us before the appointment. Our team follows a detailed checklist on every clean, but knowing your priorities means we can make sure those areas are done to your standard first.

6. Check hot water and electricity are working

For move-out cleans especially, confirm that hot water, electricity, and lighting are all operational before the team arrives. Cleaning without hot water significantly limits what a professional team can achieve, particularly for deep degreasing in kitchens and bathrooms.

Preparing for a Move-Out Clean

For move-out cleans, a couple of extra steps make a real difference:

• Remove all your belongings: the team needs full, clear access to every room
• Defrost the fridge at least 12 hours beforehand if it’s been running

• Leave key instructions or arrange access: some move-out cleans require re-entry for a second pass
